Rotary Recap – February 27, 2026

President Darcy opened the meeting by reminding members to take time to enjoy fellowship together before leading the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and the 6-Way Test.

🌟 Student of the Month Recognition
We were proud to honor Adam as the York Middle School Student of the Month. Joined by his teacher Mr. Daniels and our Youth Services Chair Claire DeLorenzo, Adam was recognized for exemplifying all six  Rotary tenets — and especially for being kind.

Adam was praised for his honesty, fairness, joyful spirit, and strong academic commitment. Teachers noted his consistent support of both peers and staff and the positive energy he brings to the school community.

As part of the recognition, Adam selected the York Education Foundation as his charity of choice, helping support innovative programs for local students. Congratulations to Adam and his proud parents on this well-deserved honor!

🤝 Speed Networking Builds Connections
Following the recognition, members participated in a fun and engaging speed-dating–style networking activity designed to strengthen relationships across the club.

Members rotated through tables in timed rounds, answering lighthearted icebreaker questions that sparked plenty of laughter and storytelling. Topics included:
  • First jobs
  • Favorite holidays
  • Household chores
  • What class they would teach
  • Most impressive animals
Elephants and dolphins emerged as crowd favorites!

Tim and Chuck joined the fun remotely from Florida, sharing stories of early work experiences — including Chuck’s memorable first car purchase for $75.

Susan emphasized the goal of the exercise: encouraging Rotarians to intentionally connect with both newer and longtime members. The energy in the room made it clear the activity was a success.

📅 Announcements & Looking Ahead
Members were reminded of several upcoming opportunities:
  • CoastX, York Rotary’s 2025 Caring is Sharing $5,000 grant recipient, will join us as our guest next week. Jud will lead the meeting while both Susan and Darcy are away.
  • Jane Anderson from the Department of Tourism will speak on Friday the 13th — members are encouraged to invite guests, especially those in hospitality.
  • Holly Sargent will present at the March 20 meeting.
  • The York Middle School Drama Club will perform Beetlejuice on March 13 and 14 — community support is encouraged.
Darcy closed the discussion by encouraging everyone to continue reaching out and building connections across the club.

Another great meeting filled with recognition, relationship-building, and Rotary spirit!
